28: Technicolor Fun

Here are two problems which will keep you busy for a week or two! They involve thought, planning and research, with colourful results.

A. Technicolor Tubes
What you do

Eye ProtectionWarning
Produce as many different coloured bands in one boiling tube as you can! You must have your proposal checked by your chemistry teacher before you start. You should investigate miscibility, comparative densities, methods of minimising mixing while adding liquids and suitable colouring agents for each layer. Once you have developed your prototype you can scale it up for display in a large measuring cylinder.
